Rise of SA physical performance

Greetings:)

This year I have had the wonderful opportunity of exploring the idea of the body being as symbol of text. With this notion one moves away from the polarised relationship between the body and mind but instead these two are brought closer and work to reveal the natural and instincual text of the body. The use of the body as an organic shape that within itself performs between time and space.

An amazing SA performer, Mamela Nyamza who advocates for this kind of thinking and uses a combination of dancing styles and inspiration from everyday life as a reference point in her works. I have a slight crush on her talent.

Her one woman show, Hatched (performed at the National Arts Fest) in 2010, explores her autobiography through movement, its beautiful, honest and most importantly so wonderfully South African. Enjoy:)

Common Sense

Greetings :)

As a form of getting through the laborious act of studying, I try to hypotise myself with amazing music to make this whole studying buisness some what bearable. I have been an avid fan of the works of consiuous rapper Common Sense. Despite his insane looks and his lyrical content is something he has not compromised his style or lyrical focus in all his years. So yesterday I was excited when I saw the behind the scenes footage of his new single "Sweet"off his upcoming album The Dreamer. The Believer.

The reason I had to share this video with you is that I am inlove with the quality of the video. It is so rich with various imagery of the culture andf honest living and no pretencious displays of being a celebrity within the streets of Haiti. This is the kind of content I would love to produce. Okay nuff talking. Enjoy!

Tailored seams of art

Greetings :)
Feel so bad for not posting as regulaly as I  intended to this week. The last week of lectures meant that my life was some what of a mad house. Nontheless, recently I have been quite captivated by the design element that goes into the prodution of clothes. The detail, angles, cut. Not that I see my self creating garments anytime soon but the precision that goes into it is a whole language within itself.  By ensuring the fit of the garment falls in a way that says something about the person wearing it and the aethetic of the designer astounds me a great deal.

Of these images below pay attention to the design of  the garments. Its really such an art within itself.

Doses of home brewed happiness

Greetings :)

So Coldplay have recently released their new music video for Paradise and I love it. Most of the video was shot betwwen South Africa and London and just seeing our currency in the one shot made me smile.  Its quite refreshing to see a look and potrayal of SA without the shot of the "hungry kids that flood Africa " but rather just shots that emphasis how insanely beautiful SA is . This is cool you know. Enjoy!

Scribbled paper and other little things

Greetings :)
So things are a little crazy right now with assignments and all that jazz so I have been in a bit of crusty mood for the past two days. One song that can literally take me out of such crusty moods is a song by Little Dragon (amazing group gee whiskers) called Scribbled Paper..please give it a listen its amazing.I have to admit Ihave quiet the obseesion with the band .Their is an honsety and lovely experimental feel that they have in their songs. They have been around since 2006 and are all from Sweden and have blown up since one of their debut songs Twice was on Greys Anatomy. Their new album is available for download..Ritual Union and promises to be some exciting stuff.  Okay so give Scribbled Paper a listen and there is another sick mix of one of their songs that was arranged by Damae Wodu which is also great.

Brandon Hicks

Greetings :)

Came across this photographer Brandon Hicks and I genuinely enjoyed this particular series of his portfoilio. The setting and relation that this GORGOUS woman has with the space makes the series quite intresting. Although the whole "lonely girl being street"look is something that has often been explored I do enjoy the way inwhich this one has been potrayed.I feel like its not too put on and it doesnt help that this model is insanely cool.

Eshe and Jalia

Greetings :)

A new brand by the name of Eshe and Jalia is set to have released a line this year that is primarly focused on the the use of Wax African fabric from Douala, Cameroon. The designer, Nathalie Moth has used a wonderful mix between the ever populular print and minimalst design in the line. Looks to be an intresting brand that could generate greater intrest in the use African based textiles.

Loving it!

Early morning/Late night spottings

Greetings :)

In some late night cruising some of my favourite sites/blogs I stumbled upon the some intresting photograhers work that is being shocased in the Dossier. With an influx in the amount of people who are quick to label themselves as "photographers" I have found myself quite weary of the discipline. Although I know there are so many people who are doing fantastic things with their cameras and in turn doing a great deal for the credibility of the art form. Respect!

I have also attached some other forms of art featured that intrested me...Give the website a look.
